A paper machine does not stop for chemistry. Pitch, stickies and scale build on felts and rolls until sheet quality drops or a break takes the line down, and the cleaner that fixes it has to work at temperature, in hard water, without attacking the machine clothing it is applied to.

Metal Finishing

Finishing failures are almost never the coating. They are the surface it went onto. Residual oil, flash rust between stages, an exhausted bath nobody titrated — each shows up as adhesion loss weeks later, at the customer, not on the line.

Mill conditions are the argument against most chemistry: scale, heat, mill scale sludge and water that changes week to week. A synthetic that holds film strength under load and then cleans up afterwards is worth more than a cheaper drum that does neither.
